Seen as healers and protectors, trees serve as powerful symbols in cultural traditions for many communities. Like the tree, Strategic Plan 2025-2030 brings to life our Vision, Mission, Core Values, Strategic Priorities and Foundational Principles.
Together our Values, Vision and Mission are constant and weave a picture of Southern Health-Santé Sud’s aspiration for the future. They define our identity as an organization and guide the decisions, behaviours and attitudes for which we are all accountable.

At Southern Health-Santé Sud
We work every day looking forward to a future where all can flourish, our Vision…
Healthier people. Healthier communities. Thriving together.
Thriving is about “we”. We seek out the wisdom of everyone to drive meaningful change and innovation. By threading our ideas together and strengthening our partnerships with our leaders, our staff, our communities, our volunteers, our patients, clients and residents, our colleagues, our stakeholders, government and other service delivery organizations, we accelerate progress in achieving health equity and collective well-being.
At Southern Health-Santé Sud
We work every day keeping our Mission at the forefront of everything we do…
Partnering with our communities, we provide safe, accessible and sustainable people-centred health care.
This requires us to listen to and learn from each other in a balanced way sharing our voices and seeking to understand different perspectives. In the spirit of “Two Eyed Seeing”, we are exploring and discovering ways to weave and intertwine both Indigenous and Western ways of being while co-creating solutions to address our collective challenges.

Five enduring core values underpin all our actions, relations and decisions. When viewed through the teaching of Two-Eyed Seeing, our core values easily align with the Seven Sacred Teachings – which have been shared by the Anishinaabe nation with all nations — a guide to living in connection with each other, with Earth and with Creator. When Indigenous people talk about doing something “in a good way” it is about using these teachings to frame our actions. The Seven Sacred Teachings are: Love, Truth, Wisdom, Respect, Honesty, Courage and Humility.
At Southern Health-Santé Sud
We work every day with a genuine commitment to uphold our overall direction and Strategic Priorities.
- Safe, Positive Patient Experience
- Healthy Empowered and Thriving Workforce
- High Performing, Sustainable Health Services
Southern Health-Santé Sud’s strategies reinforce our commitment to doing the right things as well as doing things right. At its core, it embodies a dedication to ensuring the well-being of both health care workers and the people they serve. Central to this is our resolve to close disparities and build a more equitable, accessible and sustainable healthcare system for all. While the Three overarching Strategic Priorities are important unto themselves, they are not mutually exclusive; each is vital to the success of the others.
At Southern Health-Santé Sud
We work every day steadfastly integrating our Foundational Principles and into all aspects of what we do.
- People-centred Care
- Truth and Reconciliation

- Connectedness and Alignment
Critical to our entire strategic plan we have identified four foundational principles that ground us and shape how we approach everything we do. Our foundational principles cut across all priorities to collectively advance the goals of health care, health equity, and the optimal improvement of the whole system.
