Planning for your Stay
While the environment may vary slightly between the different health centres, following is basic information to know what to expect from your stay.
Smoke-free/Scent-free
Southern Health-Santé Sud health centres are smoke-free and scent-free environments. Talk to your health care provider for smoking cessation services available to help you cope before and/or during your stay.
What to bring with you
- your valid Manitoba Health Card and any other relevant health services cards or information
- a current list of your prescription medications, traditional medicines, over-the-counter products, vitamins and herbs
- items for your personal care: basic toiletries, pajamas/nightgown, bathrobe and proper footwear
What to leave at home
Do not bring valuables such as large sums of money, credit cards, electronics, or jewelry (rings and watches that you normally wear should be left at home); Southern Health-Santé Sud is not responsible for any lost or stolen items.
Identification Bracelet(s)
- We will apply one or more plastic bracelets that you must wear on your wrist. These bracelets help to identify you and prevent errors, ensuring we provide the right procedures to the right patient. Upon receiving, please verify that the information on the bracelet is accurate.
- If you have any allergies, you will receive a second bracelet with those listed.
If you have any questions or need a new bracelet, please ask your health care provider.
Your treatment plan
Ask your health care provider about your treatment plan. Make sure you agree with the plan and ask questions if you do not understand.
Going home from the Hospital
- Planning for your discharge starts well before you leave; we thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation. We will work to have you discharged as early in the day as possible.
- Upon discharge, some patients need further health care or rehabilitation services. Your health care team will work with you to help plan your discharge and any additional care that is required.
- You may be provided with a prescription for medication and instructions regarding other take home medications. Please ensure you understand which medications you should continue taking and update your current medication list.
