Occupational therapists are health care professionals who work with infants, children, youth, adults and seniors who have experienced injury, illness, disability or developmental disability. The primary goal of occupational therapy (OT) is to enable people to participate in the activities of everyday life.
OT services typically include:
- evaluation to determine areas of strength and areas of challenge
- customized intervention to develop or improve your ability to perform daily activities
- an outcomes evaluation to ensure your goals are being met and/or changes are made to your intervention plan
- OT services may include comprehensive evaluation of your home and other environments (for example: workplace, school), recommendations for adaptive equipment or adaptation to your environment and guidance and education for your family members and caregivers
Services are based out of the three regional health centres (Bethesda Regional Health Centre, Boundary Trails Health Centre and Portage District General Hospital). Clinical services may be provided in various community settings such as: hospitals, personal care homes, school divisions, daycares and home visits as required.
Registration and licensing occurs through the College of Occupational Therapists of Manitoba.
Services are accessed through a referral process.
