Meeting Unique Health Care Needs for Young Adults

It is important that all young adults have access to health care services when they are most needed. School clinics practice a collaborative client-centred approach through trust, relationship building, advocacy, education and confidentiality.

School clinics provide an exciting opportunity for youth to begin the process of taking responsibility for their health care decisions in a safe, confidential environment. Clinics offer an interdisciplinary care model where a nurse practitioner is available at the site and will group together a number of available services into this one place, providing a team approach to wellness and health care. Youth are encouraged to develop a proactive approach to their health needs. Access to a variety of services are available at clinics including:  help with anxiety, depression, nutrition, birth control, drug/alcohol abuse, harm reduction and other health topics. A team of nurse practitioners, counsellors, public health nurse and other supports provide professional and confidential health care. When necessary, you may be referred to other health professionals.
