Sweetgrass Harvest for Regional Cultural Resource Toolkits

Our Indigenous Health Department, alongside staff from Dakota Ojibway Health Services and the Zaagaate Lake Manitoba Jordan’s Principle Team, participated in a sweetgrass harvest in Fisher River Cree Nation.

The day was led by Knowledge Holder Lance Guilbault, and Indigenous protocols were respectfully followed throughout the harvest, including the offering of tobacco. Michelle Cardinal, Director – Indigenous Health had the pleasure of organizing the event and bringing our partners together for this meaningful experience.

We are grateful that the sweetgrass harvested by the Indigenous Health department will be used to replenish our region’s Cultural Resource Toolkits. Sweetgrass is one of the four sacred traditional medicines included in the kits and plays an important role in supporting culturally safe care.
